The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Professor Francisca Bassey, has received a delegation of the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), UNICROSS branch, for discussions on staff welfare, salary review and other issues affecting the conditions of service of academic technologists.
She received the delegation on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the union to present its proposals directly to the university management and seek consideration of matters relating to remuneration, staff entitlements and general welfare.
During the courtesy visit, the NAAT Chairman, Comrade Vincent Etta, presented a letter containing the Association's proposals and agreement for the Vice Chancellor’s consideration, highlighting areas where it sought management’s intervention to improve the welfare and working conditions of its members.
In her response, Prof. Bassey acknowledged the concerns raised by the delegation and underscored the importance of examining the proposals within the university’s administrative framework.
The Vice Chancellor also drew attention to the relatively recent establishment of the Association within the institution, noting the need to give appropriate consideration to the matters presented as part of the university’s engagement with its organised labour groups.
The interaction reflects the university management’s commitment to maintaining open channels of communication with staff unions and providing opportunities for them to articulate their concerns. Such engagements enable management to better understand the expectations of different staff groups and identify issues requiring administrative attention.
The visit also highlighted the importance of constructive consultation between university authorities and staff representatives in addressing workplace concerns, strengthening institutional relations and sustaining an environment conducive to effective service delivery.
Through continued engagement with organised labour, UNICROSS seeks to promote mutual understanding and industrial harmony while ensuring that staff welfare remains an important consideration in the administration and development of the university.
