UNICROSS MAKES HISTORY, HOLDS FIRST-EVER STAFF WEEK TO IGNITE A NEW ERA

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) is about to etch a new chapter in its history as staff prepare to celebrate the first-ever UNICROSS Staff Week, a landmark initiative that has never been witnessed since the university’s establishment in 2002.

For over two decades, no week had been dedicated to honoring and celebrating the backbone of the institution, the staff. That narrative is changing under the trailblazing leadership of Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey, whose tenure continues to redefine the UNICROSS experience.

The Staff Week Planning Committee, chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Stella Maris-Okey, has unveiled a rich, colorful lineup of events.

The celebration will officially be declared open at 12 noon today by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bassey, at the New Cafeteria.

This historic week will feature thought-provoking talks, electrifying cultural displays, a nostalgic “old school” dance, rib-cracking comedy, and an award ceremony to honor staff members who have gone above and beyond in their service to UNICROSS.

The excitement will surge further with a staff rally, aerobics sessions, volleyball matches, and a highly anticipated novelty football clash between the University’s Enlarged Management Team and the Female Football Team, slated for 4pm on Friday at the ETF Field, Calabar Campus.

Satellite campuses, including Okuku Campus, will host parallel activities, with hybrid sessions ensuring full participation of all UNICROSS staff across locations.

The celebration will culminate in a grand Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, 3rd August 2025, at the St. Joseph Catholic Chaplaincy, Calabar Campus, a fitting close to a week that will resonate for years to come.

Meanwhile, Student Week activities kicked off yesterday across all campuses, adding energy and vibrance to this historic moment for UNICROSS.

This unprecedented celebration is a bold demonstration of Prof. Francisca Bassey’s visionary leadership, signaling a new dawn of appreciation, unity, and excellence for the UNICROSS community.
