Continuing her familiarization tour of the University Community, Prof. Francisca Bassey, the new Ag. Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), has also embarked on an inspection visit of the University Staff Schools, Calabar, with her Management team.
The team was conducted around the Nursery, Primary and Secondary wings of the staff schools by Mr Achuri Monday Agaji, the Head Teacher, and inspected the kindergarten sections, laboratories, toilets, staff offices and classrooms, where the Ag VC interacted with the learners. Prof. Bassey was amazed by one Master Favour Odidi, a young student of JSS 1, whom she met narrating a literature story to his classmates and raptly engaging them, in the absence of the class teacher. Master Odidi was rewarded for the act, by the Ag VC, the Registrar and the Bursar were moved to support the gesture.
The Ag VC who called for the immediate tiling of one of the lapidated toilet facilities also directed the Director of Works, Engr. Alfred Iwara, to urgently fix a fallen ceiling in the school premises. She decried the lack of a single computer system in the school's computer laboratory and equally frowned at the empty science laboratory without any basic learning science apparatus for the students as well as the very poorly equipped library.
While the Ag VC commended the staff for their commitment to duty, the Management was, in turn, warmly appreciated by the Head of Schools, who intimated that UNICROSS Staff Schools were raising very brilliant and well-behaved children who can favourably compete with their peers anywhere. He appealed to the Ag VC for the construction of new Classroom blocks.
